The Aquarium visit is a must when visiting Genua with children. My 3 year old son was the entire time overwhelmed with joy and enthusiasm. The other two children ages 10 and 12 were also very impressed.

The booking was super easy. The tickets worked. The aquarium was well worth seeing. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time afterwards for the bus tours and exploring the sights. We would love to come back another time.

Many fish specimens, very well organized although I thought it was bigger.... the rude children around who cackle and shout without caring about the beauty around them instead were very annoying!

The aquarium is wonderful, an experience not to be missed if you pass through Genoa. It is a family place, so you will meet many families and children, and therefore, a lot of noise.

The aquarium is truly overwhelming! The immense diversity of the world's oceans is brought to life and it is to be hoped that the message of taking care to protect biodiversity will reach as many people as possible. The Fanta Cinema, on the other hand, was a disappointment. - It was simply a collection of plastic figures of various Leinwald heroes - we could have saved ourselves a visit!

🏁 Arrival at the old port

Your journey begins at Genoa’s historic Old Port, where the modern glass-and-steel structure of the Aquarium of Genoa blends into a maritime backdrop. As you step inside, you leave the bustling harbor behind and enter a world entirely devoted to the ocean.

🌊 A walk beneath the sea

The path takes you through 70 immersive exhibits, starting with Mediterranean habitats before plunging into the tropical seas, Antarctic ice, and even the Amazon rainforest. Giant viewing panels surround you with life—sea turtles glide past your shoulder, while sharks circle above in darkened overhead tanks.

🐬 Face to face with marine icons

The Cetacean Pavilion is a standout moment, offering multiple levels to view dolphins swimming gracefully through vast pools. Elsewhere, you'll meet curious penguins, glowing jellyfish, and swirling schools of colorful fish—all housed in thoughtfully recreated ecosystems.

🧒 Perfect for curious minds

Interactive displays and touch zones make this a hit with families. Children can learn about seahorses, coral reefs, and amphibians through engaging panels and motion-triggered animations, while adults appreciate the blend of education and visual wonder.

☕ Relax, reflect, and revisit

There are rest areas and cafés along the route—many with views of the harbor. Most visitors spend 2–3 hours exploring, but it’s easy to linger longer if you're taking it slow or visiting with kids. The route is mostly linear and easy to navigate.

Things to know before buying tickets to Aquarium of Genoa

  • The Aquarium of Genoa is part of the larger AcquarioVillage World complex, which includes The City of Children and Youth, Bigo, Biosphere, and the Aquarium itself. Please note that the Genoa Aquarium ticket only grants access to the aquarium and does not include admission to other attractions. You'll need separate tickets for each.
  • Considering the aquarium is one of Genoa's top highlights, it sees long ticket lines, especially troublesome during the peak season. Booking online tickets in advance is highly recommended for a smooth, joyous experience from the get-go.

  • Booking online requires you to choose the time and date of your visit. Do note that you can't reschedule these tickets, so pick wisely. An ideal time would be within the first few hours so you can appreciate the brilliant and widely diverse marine ecosystem in a relatively quiet setting. The whole visit takes around 2:30-3 hours. Take a break in between and grab some delicious complimentary Genoese focaccia at the Tender Café (included in your ticket at just an extra €1).

  • The entire aquarium complex is wheelchair accessible, with very minimal architectural barriers. Ramps and elevators are available for a seamless experience for all visitors. People with disabilities can claim a reduced ticket price with proper documentation. For children between ages 4-12, a child ticket would be a more economical option. In cases of complete disability, an accompanying person does not need to purchase a ticket.

  • Children (4 to 12 years) can enjoy a €10 discount on the ticket, while senior citizens (above 65 years) are eligible for a €5 discount. Children under 3 don't need tickets.
  • The Aquarium offers a variety of popular, exclusive experiences like the Night with Sharks (for kids only), Face-to-face with Dolphins, Emotional Dinners, Behind-the-scenes tours, Face-to-face with Penguins, etc. Each experience has its own set of rules and needs a separate ticket.

  • Please note that no pets are allowed inside the aquarium, except for guide dogs for blind visitors. If you need to leave your pet behind, there are dog sitting services available in the area that will take good care of your furry friends while you're exploring the underwater world.
